The position is financed by the German Research Foundation (DFG) in the framework of the Collaborative Research Center (CRC) 1444:
“Directed Cellular Self-Organization to Advance Bone Regeneration”.
The aim of the project is to develop computer models to investigate how mechanical signals (strains/stresses), as a result of external loads applied to tissues, direct the formation of new blood vessels.
The project will be perfomed in tight collaboration with the Prof. Ansgar Petersen at the Berlin Institute of Health (Charite Universitaetsmedizin Berlin), who will perform in vitro experiments of blood vessel growth within in vitro bioreactors. Experimental data from these experiments will be used for model calibration and validation. The knowledge will be used to develop scaffold implant materials to support bone regeneration.
