The Fraunhofer Institute for Additive Manufacturing Technologies IAPT, with its approx. 75 employees, is one of the leading institutions in the field of additive production with a research focus on design, process, factory and digitization. The focus is on the industrialization of additive technologies and the associated technology transfer.

The TUHH and the Fraunhofer IAPT have been collaborating since 2018. To strengthen their cooperation in the field of additive production technologies the TUHH and the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft jointly seek applications for a

PROFESSORSHIP (W3) IN THE DOMAIN OF INDUSTRIALIZATION OF SMART MATERIALS
in association with the position of
DIRECTOR AT THE FRAUNHOFER INSTITUTE FOR ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING TECHNOLOGIES IAPT

The position is situated in the context of materials and process development and their industrial introduction. The TUHH and the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft are looking for a candidate who is specialized in the development and communication of the basics, methods and processes of industrialization of smart materials at the interface to additive production and additive manufacturing processes. We are particularly interested in applications from candidates with a background in the following research areas:

  • Additive manufacturing and functional integration
  • Material and product qualification
  • Development of methodology, processes and digital modelling (for the for topics mentioned)
  • Development of 4D printing towards industrial applications

      In close accord with the applied research topics addressed at the Fraunhofer IAPT, the university professorship also involves the advancement of fundamental knowledge.

      The successful applicant is expected to represent the subject area of industrialization of smart materials in research and teaching as well as in technology management vis-à-vis third-party funding bodies and research partners. As a director at the Fraunhofer IAPT his/her responsibilities will include the scientific-technical and entrepreneurial management and development of the institute within the Fraunhofer modeland the overall strategy of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft. The position holder will also promote the strategic partnership between the TUHH and the Fraunhofer IAPT and its long-term and sustainable development.

      We are looking for a personality with years of leadership experience from larger, interdisciplinary research groups, experience in the strategic planning, acquisition and implementation of large-scale national and international research and development projects in different business areas, and expertise in increasing efficiency in development processes and technology utilization. International work and teaching experience and/or experience in international projects and connections in research policy are an advantage.

      The employment requirements for professors as per §15 Hamburger Hochschulgesetz (Hamburg University Act) apply. In particular, a university degree, pedagogical aptitude, a special ability to work in research (usually proven by a doctorate) and additional academic achievements are required.
