The Center for Data and Computing in Natural Science (CDCS) is a new scientific institution, which is being established in Science City Bahrenfeld, formed as a partnership between the University of Hamburg, Hamburg University of Technology and DESY. The CDCS is dedicated to the development and application of modern information technologies (Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Scientific Computing) to complex scientific problems. With Cross-Disciplinary Labs (CDL) a flexible structure is created, which works integrative between the scientific groups of computer science and mathematics on the one hand and the natural sciences on the other hand. A total of 11 postdoctoral positions will be filled in the CDCS, 3 of which will be in the Informatics Core Unit and 2 in each of the four thematic CDLs. The thematic priorities of the CDLs are: Astro- and Particle Physics (1), Photon Science (2), Systems Biology (3) and Computational Control of Accelerators (4). Being a cooperation between DESY and TUHH, the CDL "Computational Controls of Accelerators" focusses on the control of complex processes in large scale research facilities, e.g., operation of particle accelerators for conducting scientific experiments. These controls are implemented in a multi-layered, highly distributed hardware-software architecture. Sensor data must be processed at high speed and controlling the physical devices requires real-time data processing. Today, configuration and operation of such facilities require extensive expert knowledge. By this, the CDL exploits a comprehensive view on data coming from hardware and software of the control system. One goal of the CDL is to transfer the approaches into other application domains. We are looking for a candidate to fill one of the two positions available in the CDL " Computational Control of Accelerators" (the second position of this CDL will be filled with a candidate employed by DESY). The focus of the position is on realizing high-dimensional real-time controls with low latency using modern Field Programmable Gate Arrays (Zynq MPSoC/Versa) for processing large data sets. Different layers of the system architecture must be considered and software accelerators using vector processors for artificial intelligence applications will be used.
