The Institute for Algorithms and Complexity is a research institute of the TUHH - Technical University of Hamburg. It develops efficient methods for solving important computational problems in economics, engineering, and social sciences. It offers students comprehensive training in theoretical computer science. The institute consists of a dynamic, interdisciplinary team that is involved in various national and international scientific collaborations.
The institute is located in the newly built Hamburg Innovation Port, which is located right at the Harburg harbour with great views of the harbour and Hamburg's famous opera house (Elbphilharmonie). Several other computer science institutes of the TU Hamburg are located in the area, as well as DASHH - Data Science in Hamburg, the Helmholtz Graduate School for the Structure of Matter, and the German Air and Space Research Center (DLR). They are all located in the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, which is Germany's second largest city, home to a population of about 1.8 million people. It is a famous city of entertainment, trade and commerce, with several universities and much research in algorithms.
YOUR PROFILE
Requirements
- Excellent university degree in computer science, (applied) mathematics, operations research or related field
Required knowledge and personal skills
- Interest in algorithm design, algorithm engineering, complexity theory, or algorithmic game theory/mechanism design
- Strong background in algorithms, like distributed, parallel computing, approximation, parameterized, online or optimization algorithms
- Very good written and oral communication skills in English for publications, presentations and project meetings
- Programming experience is considered a plus
