For the Institute of Advanced Ceramics of the Hamburg University of Technology   within the framework of the area C of the Collaborative Research Center SFB 986 is looking for a:


in a full-time position (100%) to start at the earliest possible date from 01.03.2021 onwards and for a fixed-term contract of 3 years and 4 months. The remuneration is in accordance with TV-L 13  .

  • Investigate and characterize new materials for photonic applications, including performing hands-on () experiments inside research laboratories
  • Develop atomic layer deposition (ALD) processes to coat/infiltrate 3D structures
  • Develop the additive manufacturing of ceramic nanoparticles’ and ALD-coated particles
  • Collaborate closely with other groups within the collaborative research center SFB 986
  • Report and present results to internal stakeholders within the institute and the SFB 986
  • Present the research findings at conferences and publish in leading journals


  • Educational background: master’s degree or a diploma in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Nanoscience, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent field, with a solid background on materials science and/or nanoscience (or equivalent disciplines).
  • Required skills (mandatory): i) hands-on (practical) experience with materials processing and/or characterization; ii) reliable, results-oriented and organized work style; iii) excellent communication and team-work skills; iv) professional working proficiency in English (written and spoken) - German knowledge is considered an asset, but it is not mandatory.
  • Desired or advantageous skills (not mandatory): i) previous experience in thin films deposition and/or colloidal systems; ii) previous experience with precursors handling; iii) previous experience with robocasting or direct writing; iv) previous experience with XRD.
