The Institute of Digital and Autonomous Construction, founded in 2021, is a central part of the growth concept of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg. The institute is located at the Hamburg Innovation Port (HIP), the new technology and innovation center in Hamburg, and will address current and future issues of digitalization in civil engineering. For our team, we are seeking motivated researchers, interested in creatively shaping the digitalization in the construction industry, jointly with strong industry partners at Hamburg University of Technology, and partner universities in Germany as well as abroad. The German Research Foundation (DFG) is funding a research project on modeling and design concepts for digital roads. For details on the research project, please refer to the project website

  • Mathematical description of digital roads
  • Implementation of a digital road twin
  • Experiments, simulations, and method integration


  • Completed scientific university studies (M.Sc. or Dipl.) in computer science, mathematics, civil engineering, or related areas relevant to the research topic
  • Ability and willingness to work in a team; communication and cooperation skills
  • Very good English skills and strong interest in structured research and scientific working
  • Expertise/interest in the areas of formal languages, automata theory, category theory and temporal logic


    • Opportunities to work in a professional research environment, in a DFG-funded project
    • Collaboration in an interdisciplinary, highly motivated team on future-oriented topics in digitalization in engineering, such as industry 4.0, IoT, cyber-physical systems, additive manufacturing, smart sensors/robotics and artificial intelligence
    • Access to new labs and modern infrastructure
    • Contributions to research and teaching activities, together with industrial partners and universities in Germany and abroad, in an innovative environment
    • Outside of duties, further scientific training is possible, the results can be used for a dissertation
