Cyber Physical Systems are networked computing systems interacting with the physical environment, e.g., production systems, smart devices, or cars. Understandable, accurate models are important for various tasks in designing, improving, and operating such CPS. However, such models are often not available in practice. Your research will focus on analysing and developing methods to learn models of complex and black-box systems. Theoretical limitations and guarantees provided by the learning methods will be determined. This includes the definition of metrics and processes to perform evaluations and comparisons of system models. Moreover, the usage of the learned models in testing, behavioural prediction, and in-field monitoring of correctness will be studied.

  • Research in automated analysis of complex cyber-physical systems
  • Implementation of approaches in open-source frameworks and evaluation on industrial systems
  • Continuous exchange with partner institutions from research and industry
  • Publication of research findings at conferences and in leading journals


  • Master’s degree or diploma in Computer Science, Computer Science and Engineering or a similar field – ideally with a focus on robotics or system’s engineering
  • Excellent skills in software engineering and programming, preferably in Matlab, Java, and embedded languages like C/C++ or Haskell
  • Broad knowledge on automata, formal methods and languages
  • Professional working proficiency in English ( B2/C1 written and spoken)
  • Experiences in engineering of robotics or other complex systems and / or  in embedded programming are advantageous
  • Reliable, results-oriented and organized work style and excellent communication and team-work skills
