The institute’s interdisciplinary and international research team covers a broad range of research topics relevant to achieving a practically useful quantum advantage. They range from mathematically rigorous investigations to collaborations with experimentalists and applied scientists from industry.

We are looking for a researcher working on an upcoming project on quantum benchmarking and quantum error correction. The research will contain rigorous mathematical analyses as well as proof-of-concept-type numerical demonstrations. It is part of a joint project with the quantum computing company Universal Quantum.

YOUR TASKS

  • Research on the possibilities and limitations of quantum benchmarking methods for NISQ and early fault tolerant devices
  • Publication of research results in peer-reviewed international journals and conferences (mostly physics and computer science)
  • Contributing to the teaching activities of the institute and student supervision

Requirements

  • Completed scientific university studies, in particular in the subjects of Quantum Sciences, Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or comparable.

Required knowledge and personal skills

  • Prior rigorous mathematical training and solid knowledge of quantum mechanics is required
  • Advanced knowledge in at least one of the topics:
    - quantum algorithms,
    - quantum error correction
    - randomized measurements and
    - quantum system characterization (QCVV)
