The Chair Computational Mathematics is one of five research groups at TU Hamburg's Institute of Mathematics. We specialize in the development, implementation and analysis of efficient numerical algorithms for differential equations. Our methods are applied in a wide range of applications, from geophysical fluid dynamics to chemical process engineering. Of particular interest is the development of algorithms that help to better utilize high-performance computing systems and the integration of machine learning with traditional numerics.
The advertised position is "open topic" but needs to align with existing research activity at the Chair for Computational Mathematics. As part of your cover letter, please provide a paragraph where you explain which direction of research at the Chair you would like to pursue and how this aligns with your previous experience. One possible topic would be the combination of scientific machine learning and numerical algorithms, particularly in the context of inverse problems with PDE-constraints but any suggestion that aligns with the Chair's expertise will be considered. The main criterion is the strength of the applicant's scientific background.
