Professorship (W3) in the field of
Digital Economics (Ref. No. P-19-06)

TUHH seeks to strengthen its research and degree programmes with this new chair at the School of Management and Technology that will concentrate on the consequences of digitalization for economic activities. In particular, the professorship is expected to focus on change in markets and organizations as a result of digitalization, and on the consequences that these developments have for companies, employees, consumers and for society. The person filling this post should have a foundation in economics, preferably in microeconomics or institutional economics, as well as experience related to digitalization in order to facilitate study of the implications of the serious changes resulting from progress in digitization in the economy as a whole. Applicants are expected to cover the field of Digital Economics in research as well as in teaching and to cooperate with other TUHH institutes on relevant topics from this area. TUHH seeks to appoint a person with a strong track record in research, as shown by national and international research cooperation, and an international publication record with a pertinent focus in areas such as:

• Microeconomic consequences of digitalization on competitiveness (Digitalization and Clusters),
• Economic policy and framework for digitally transformed economies,
• Implications of digital markets,
• Development of workforce and working conditions in an increasingly digitized environment,
• Data Economics and Digital Value Creation,
• Transformation from industrial to digitally transformed economies,
• Influence of new information and communication technologies on market structures, studied from the perspective of industrial economics (productivity, customer behaviour, power of suppliers, market entry etc.),
• Digitalization and International Development.


Applicants should demonstrate enthusiasm for teaching and are expected to have very good didactical skills. The use of innovative teaching methods is highly welcomed. The person appointed to the post will teach courses in Economics in different degree programmes at the School of Management and Technology, at both graduate and postgraduate level, and is also expected to offer courses for students across the entire TUHH. The teaching portfolio should therefore consist of basic Economics courses and advanced courses in Digital Economics,. Teaching is in English and German. For non-German speakers the willingness to learn German is an advantage. Furthermore, experience in the funding and delivery of third-party funded projects is expected from applicants. They should also demonstrate ability and willingness to cooperate with colleagues from the School of Management and Technology, for example in the field of Logistics or Entrepreneurship, as well as with colleagues from TUHH’s Engineering Schools. The position will begin in the 2020/2021 winter semester.
