TUHH will establish a Research Center for Energy Systems (CES) to meet the technical and societal challenges resulting from the ongoing transition towards a greenhouse gas neutral energy supply system. This research center will be part of the “Green Technologies” focal area of TUHH and will bring together seven different institutes to work on inter- and trans-disciplinary research topics. The goal is to tackle key research questions crossing technological, economic and environmental research fields.

The advertised positions for professorships in this context include management functions and are located at the intersection of process engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and civil engineering.

Willingness and ability to cooperate and collaborate, therefore, is considered essential for the success of the center. The positions are to be filled at the earliest convenience.

The ideal candidate will have a background in chemical / mechanical / systems engineering with experience in research and teaching related to aspects of the efficient conversion of renewable sources of energy. The scientific focus of this position as part of the School of Process Engineering is on research into environmentally friendly and economically feasible conversion of renewable energies to cover a given demand pattern securely (i.e. including storage). Research activities from one or more of the following subject areas are expected:

  • Storage of thermal and/or electrical energy including investigation of “new” storage media and concepts (e.g. for hydrogen) including technological solutions
  • Electrochemical conversion processes for storage and/or material use of renewable sources of energy
  • Technological combinations of conversion processes and systems to cover a defined energy supply task based on different renewable sources of energy
  • Development and optimization of “new” conversion processes and concepts, especially for fluctuating renewable sources of energy including simulation of such processes.

The successful candidate is expected to offer courses at least in:

  • Technical thermodynamics for process engineers
  • Fundamentals of energy storage
  • Wind energy technology (on- and offshore).
