TUHH will establish a Research Center for Energy Systems (CES) to meet the technical and societal challenges resulting from the ongoing transition towards a greenhouse gas neutral energy supply system. This research center will be part of the “Green Technologies” focal area of TUHH and will bring together seven different institutes to work on inter- and trans-disciplinary research topics. The goal is to tackle key research questions crossing technological, economic and environmental research fields.

The advertised positions for professorships in this context include management functions and are located at the intersection of process engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and civil engineering.

Willingness and ability to cooperate and collaborate, therefore, is considered essential for the success of the center. The positions are to be filled at the earliest convenience.

PROFESSORSHIP W3 IN THE FIELD OF
CONVERSION TECHNOLOGIES FOR RENEWABLE ENERGIES

Kenn-Nr.: P-19-09

YOUR TASKS

The ideal candidate will have a background in chemical / mechanical / systems engineering with experience in research and teaching related to aspects of the efficient conversion of renewable sources of energy. The scientific focus of this position as part of the School of Process Engineering is on research into environmentally friendly and economically feasible conversion of renewable energies to cover a given demand pattern securely (i.e. including storage). Research activities from one or more of the following subject areas are expected:

  • Storage of thermal and/or electrical energy including investigation of “new” storage media and concepts (e.g. for hydrogen) including technological solutions
  • Electrochemical conversion processes for storage and/or material use of renewable sources of energy
  • Technological combinations of conversion processes and systems to cover a defined energy supply task based on different renewable sources of energy
  • Development and optimization of “new” conversion processes and concepts, especially for fluctuating renewable sources of energy including simulation of such processes.

The successful candidate is expected to offer courses at least in:

  • Technical thermodynamics for process engineers
  • Fundamentals of energy storage
  • Wind energy technology (on- and offshore).

The TUHH acknowledges exceptional and innovative teaching achievements and capabilities. Successful applicants will therefore contribute to TUHH’s prominent profile of innovative teaching methods with high quality undergraduate (B.Sc.) and graduate (M.Sc.) courses. The courses are in English and German; for non-German speakers a willingness to learn German is expected.

TUHH is an equal opportunity employer and particularly welcomes and encourages applications from women. It is certified as a family-friendly university and supports dual careers. Applications by disabled persons with equal qualifications will be given preference.

The legal framework of the Federal Republic of Germany applies (in Hamburg the law is applied pursuant to Section 15 HmbHG). Applicants over the age of 50 cannot expect to be employed as civil servants.

Please upload your application (including CV, Ref. No. P-19-09, a list of publications, relevant certificates, overview of research activities and teaching experience). The deadline for applications is February 2, 2020.
