Institute for Autonomous Cyber-Physical Systems
Remuneration EG 13  TV-L
ID: 32325WE24
Start of employment as soon as possible

Application deadline November 24th 2025
Scope full time and for a maximum of four years

As part of the school of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, and Mathematics (EIM), the Institute for Autonomous Cyber-Physical Systems (ACPS) conducts research on novel methods, protocols, and computer algorithms for low- and zero-power wireless communication and energy management for regeneratively powered and intermittent devices in the domain of cyber-physical systems (CPSs) with a special focus on smart infrastructure. Secondly, we carry out research in underwater communication and localization for swarms of micro autonomous underwater vehicles (uAUVs) for monitoring and inspection of underwater habitats and infrastructure (such as ports, off-shore wind parks, etc.).

Within these research areas, we are seeking to fill a full position for research and teaching. In particular, we envision two potential research projects: the first aims to develop new hardware-/software concepts for reliable intermittent computing for AI-enabled devices; the second addresses protocols for underwater acoustic networking, including wake-up receivers, neighbor discovery and medium access. The applicant should outline their preference in context of their education in a motivation letter. The position is designed for pursuing a thematically related doctoral project (Ph.D.). It is expected that the Ph.D. student presents scientific results at international conferences. Involvement in the institute's teaching activities is mandatory

YOUR TASKS

  • Design of communication methods and protocols (ISO/OSI layers 2-4) OR execution models for intermittent devices
  • Design and implementation of embedded software and hardware for lab and real-world experiments
  • Development of simulation software for scientific evaluation
  • Planning, execution, and evaluation of scientific real-world experiments
  • Writing of scientific papers and presentation of results at conferences and other scientific events
